Assistant Director of Policy Engagement
8720 Georgia Ave, Suite 803
Silver Spring, MD, 20910
As an Assistant Director of Policy Engagement with COMPASS, I connect scientists with policymakers and journalists, lead policy and communication workshops, and develop opportunities for research to impact policy. I have over 12 years of experience working with scientists and decision makers to increase the use of scientific knowledge about the environment. My expertise is in policy, the economics of natural resources, ecosystem services, and evaluation.
I work closely with the COMPASS team in Washington, D.C., but I'm based in Vermont. I'm an affiliate with the Gund Institute for Environment at the University of Vermont, and I study how, when, and why science and policy interact. I've published research in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Nature Communications, Environmental Science and Policy, Ecological Economics, Environment and Society, and Sustainability. Previously, I've worked as a consultant to estimate the value of natural resources for global companies.
I have a Ph.D. in natural resources and ecological economics from the University of Vermont, a B.S. in astronomy and physics from Haverford College, and I studied science education at Stanford University. Outside of work, I love mountain adventures and doing just about anything with my wife and two children.
