2026 Ocean Sciences Meeting: COMPASS Townhall + Evening Panel & Social Event

We’re excited to expand on our marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) work at the 2026 Ocean Sciences Meeting in Glasgow! Alongside a closed workshop for cohort members, we’re excited to invite the broader community to a town hall on communicating risk and an evening panel and social event on the state of mCDR science. You’ll find details on the public events below.

COMPASS Town Hall

Strategic Science Communication in Practice: Communicating Risk Effectively

Date: Monday, February 23 | 12:45–1:45 PM
Open to all OSM attendees

In this interactive panel discussion, we’ll discuss the science behind risk communication and share advice for developing key risk messages to be more meaningful, compassionate, and actionable. Whether it’s sharing the potential, complexity and tradeoffs of a novel field like marine-based carbon dioxide removal, or translating technical information for community planning, effective risk communication can improve comprehension and decision making while building relationships in the process.

  • Heather Mannix, COMPASS (Moderator)
  • Christina Hoenow, COMPASS
  • Angelo Villagomez, Center for American Progress
  • Adam Subhas, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute
