For COMPASS, 2020 marks 20 years of supporting scientists to engage effectively and navigate conversations and connections to extend their impact beyond the lab and field. Our relationships are at the heart of what we do, so we hope you’ll be able to join us throughout our 20th year as we celebrate what we’ve accomplished together. We couldn’t do it without you.

Anniversaries tend to focus on the past, but as we take stock of where we’ve been, we’re also looking ahead to where we want to be, and what else we need to accomplish in the world to get there.

Our founders had a clear vision of the need for scientists to be agents of change in society. We are building on this strong foundation as we clarify and sharpen our focus for the decade ahead on climate change and biodiversity loss.

We believe that science doesn’t only teach us about how and why our planet is changing – it also provides a way for us to learn about potential solutions. We believe the most impactful solutions to biodiversity loss and climate change protect the wellbeing of people too. And we believe that scientists that engage with policymakers and the media should reflect the diversity of society as a whole, and should feel safe and supported to bring their whole selves to their work and outreach.

Over the next ten years, we look forward to more game-changing, cross-disciplinary, and transformative conversations that clarify the relationships between nature and people and our options for action. More than ever, we believe that it is possible, and essential, to build a future where people and nature thrive together.

This is the vision that will guide COMPASS through the next decade. We’re eager to embark on this journey with you.
